A prayer candle is a candle lit for prayer, meditation or to mark an intention, and a tall 7 day candle in a glass is the usual choice. Some are named for a prayer or psalm, such as The Lord’s Prayer and Psalm (Green). Others are spiritual candles with traditional names, such as High John, Peace in the Home and Steady Work, or a Seven Color candle. Solid colors and tea lights are here too.
Candle names describe traditional use, not a guaranteed result. Trim the wick, burn on a heat-safe surface, never leave a flame unattended, and keep candles away from children and pets. Pair a candle with smudge sticks or incense sticks. Shopping in Brooklyn? See ourcandles in Brooklyn page, or browse all candles.

Prayer candles: Questions
What is a prayer candle?
A prayer candle is a candle lit during prayer, meditation or to mark an intention, and many people use a tall 7 day candle in a glass for this. Some styles are named for a prayer or psalm, such as The Lord's Prayer and Psalm (Green).
How long does a prayer candle burn?
Burn time depends on the candle, so read the label on yours. A 7 day candle is made to burn over several days, while a tea light burns for a much shorter time. Never leave a flame unattended, and put the candle out when you leave the room.
What do the candle names mean?
Names such as High John, Peace in the Home and Steady Work describe traditional use and what people have lit the candles for. They are not a promise of any outcome, and we do not make one. Pick the candle that speaks to you.
Which prayer candle colors do you carry?
We carry 7 day candles in solid colors such as red and yellow, a Seven Color candle, and solid candles in white, black and other colors. Colors carry meanings that differ between households and traditions, so there is no single answer; ask us in the shop.
