The labels describe each oil’s aroma and what it mixes well with, so you can build your own scents.

Essential oils: Questions

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are concentrated oils from plants. The labels on ours say natural essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care. Our single oils include lavender, lemon, cedarwood and cinnamon bark, and we also carry ready-made blends from NOW Essential Oils.

What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oils?

Essential oils, such as our NOW Essential Oils, are labeled 100% pure plant oils. Fragrance body oils are scented oils made to wear on the skin and to burn. They are different products, so read the label and use each one as directed.

Do essential oils need to be diluted?

The labels advise diluting essential oils in a carrier oil such as grapeseed, olive or almond oil before use, and suggest checking an essential oil reference for dilution ratios. We sell carrier oils such as jojoba and sweet almond. If you are unsure, ask us in the shop.

How do I use essential oils safely?

Follow the directions on the label, keep essential oils away from children and pets, and keep them out of your eyes. They are highly concentrated and should be used with care. If you are pregnant, nursing or taking medication, ask your doctor first.

Where can I buy essential oils in Brooklyn?

At Nicholas Brooklyn, 1396 Fulton Street in Bed-Stuy, open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm. Walk-ins are welcome, and our team can help you find the oil you want.

Do you ship essential oils?

Yes. Nicholas Brooklyn ships nationwide, so you can order essential oils online and have them sent to you. The shipping policy page explains how shipping works, so please read it before you check out, or call (718) 858-4400.
