Candles in Brooklyn: Questions

Where can I buy 7 day candles in Brooklyn?

Nicholas Brooklyn, a Black-owned apothecary at 1396 Fulton St in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY 11216, carries 7 day candles. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm. You can also order online.

What is a 7 day candle?

A 7 day candle is a tall candle in a glass, made to burn over several days. Many people light one for prayer, meditation or to mark an intention. Ours come in solid colors and in styles with traditional names.

What is the difference between a 7 day candle and a prayer candle?

The two terms overlap. A 7 day candle describes the tall glass candle that burns for days. A prayer candle is how many people use one, often lit while praying or setting an intention. Some styles have a prayer or psalm printed on the glass, such as The Lord's Prayer or Psalm candles.

How long does a 7 day candle burn?

The name refers to the roughly week-long burn the candle is made for. Actual burn time depends on the candle, the room and how it is burned, so check the label. Never leave a flame unattended, and put the candle out when you leave the room.

What do the candle colors mean?

Meanings are traditional and differ between households and traditions, so there is no single answer. Many people choose a color for an intention, such as green for prosperity or white for peace. Come in and ask, or choose the color that feels right to you.

Do you ship candles outside Brooklyn?

Yes. Nicholas Brooklyn ships nationwide, so you can order 7 day candles and everything else in the store online without visiting Brooklyn. Our shipping policy page explains how shipping works, and it is worth a read before you order. If you have a question about your order, call the shop at (718) 858-4400.

How do I burn a candle safely?

Burn it on a heat-safe surface, never leave a flame unattended, and keep it away from children, pets and anything that can catch fire. Trim the wick if needed and make sure the flame is completely out before you leave the room.

Do the candle names promise a result?

No. Names such as High John Conqueror, Money Drawing or Peace in the Home describe traditional use and what people have lit them for. They are not a guarantee of any outcome, and we do not promise one. Choose the candle that speaks to you.
