10 Herbs I Believe Every Household Should Keep in Their Herbal Cabinet

10 Herbs I Believe Every Household Should Keep in Their Herbal Cabinet

One of the things I love most about owning Nicholas Brooklyn is the conversations.

People come into the store every day looking for something different.

Some are looking for more energy. Some want help winding down after a long day. Some are trying to support their immune system. Others are simply looking for natural ways to take better care of themselves and their families.

One thing I always tell people is this: you don’t need 100 different supplements in your house. Sometimes having a small collection of trusted herbs on hand can go a long way.

These are 10 herbs I believe every household should consider keeping in their herbal cabinet.

1. Elderberry

If I had to pick one herb that people ask for year-round, elderberry would be near the top of the list.

For generations, elderberry has been used as part of traditional wellness practices and is especially popular during seasonal changes. Many families keep elderberry syrup, tea, or capsules on hand throughout the year.

2. Dandelion Root

Most people think of dandelions as weeds. I see them differently.

Dandelion root has been used traditionally for generations and is one of the most respected herbs in herbal traditions around the world. Many people enjoy it as a tea and appreciate its naturally earthy flavor.

3. Nettle Leaf

Nettle is one of those herbs that doesn’t get enough attention.

It’s a plant that has been used traditionally for centuries and is a favorite among many herbalists. Nettle tea is a staple in many households and is often enjoyed as part of a daily wellness routine.

4. Lemon Balm

Life is busy. That’s exactly why I love lemon balm.

Lemon balm has a pleasant lemony aroma and has been used traditionally for centuries. Many people enjoy a warm cup of lemon balm tea when they’re looking to slow down and create a little calm in their day.

5. Chamomile

Chamomile is one of the most recognized herbs in the world.

It’s gentle, familiar, and has been used in homes for generations. Whether enjoyed before bedtime or simply as part of a relaxing evening routine, chamomile remains a customer favorite.

6. Soursop Leaf

Over the last several years, soursop leaf has become one of the most requested herbal teas in our store.

Customers love it, and many people enjoy incorporating it into their wellness routines. At Nicholas Brooklyn, it’s one of those herbs we can barely keep on the shelves.

7. Hibiscus

If you’ve ever had sorrel during the holidays, you’ve already met hibiscus.

Not only is it beautiful, but it also makes one of the most delicious herbal teas you’ll ever drink. Its vibrant color and refreshing taste have made it a favorite throughout the Caribbean, Africa, and beyond.

8. Mullein

Mullein has become increasingly popular over the last few years.

People love it as a tea and often include it as part of their herbal wellness practices. It’s one of those herbs that has developed a loyal following among our customers.

9. Ginger Root

I don’t think any herbal cabinet is complete without ginger.

Whether you’re making tea, adding it to food, or combining it with other herbs, ginger is one of the most versatile plants you can keep in your home. Plus, it tastes amazing.

10. Peppermint

Peppermint is one of those herbs that almost everybody enjoys.

It’s refreshing, aromatic, and incredibly versatile. A cup of peppermint tea can be enjoyed hot or cold and is a wonderful herb to keep on hand throughout the year.

Building Your Herbal Cabinet Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

One mistake I see people make is feeling like they need to buy every herb they hear about.

You don’t.

Start simple. Choose a few herbs that fit your lifestyle and learn about them. Over time, you’ll discover which herbs become staples in your home.

That’s how most herbal journeys begin. Not with 50 products. Just one cup of tea at a time.
